The Soaring Dragon is complete. She is finally finally ready for moldmaking. Where I'm using a new technique for making molds, I'm trying it out on a smaller sculpt first though. So today I've spent a decent portion of the afternoon on making a mold for the Winged Hermit Crab. With any luck it will turn out nicely, and I'll be able to start up a mold for the dragon next. In the meantime, while rubber cures, I'm working on detailing the DragonOtter. Lots and lots of work to do, not to mention a run to the PO at some point today.

out of curiosity, what molding process do you use? I usually do the mothermold first and then close all and cast the silicone.

Well...I had been using the "sock mold" technique which windstone uses, and which Melody had helped me figure out. But...I brushed on rubber first, fairly thick, then made a two part mother mold fitted to the rubber.

However, since it severely limits the posing of my sculpts, and is prone to tearing, I'm now learning the "matrix mold" technique which I believe you use.... I'm using the tutorial here...

Which I'm fairly sure you're familiar with...it's a well known thread.

yep, thats almost the same procedure I use. I just do it in easyer steps and I cut open the silicone part. I do the outsite plaster side by sticking "fences" into it, consisting of chips of beer cans. For more intricate figures I usually make 3 part mothermolds, works quite good. When I plaster my mothermolds I do all sides at once, takes some patience because you have to coax the plaster to hold on (while it is in a whipping cream consistence). hope your molding will work fine :)
